The palace is characterized by having two noble floors that have the same degree of importance and plan articulation. The first noble floor was intended for the residence of the prince of Butera, while the second noble floor was home to the eldest son and heir of the prince.
The project of Palazzo Butera originates from a constant and patient exercise of observation of the palace itself, of its original spatial and distributive characteristics, and from the desire to approach the ancient material with sensitivity.
The re-functionalization and restoration project studied by architect Giovanni Cappelletti is measured by the need to recognize and preserve the features of the eighteenth-century architecture and at the same time to give a new identity to the palace through a careful design of the exhibition route and the arrangement of the works and thanks to the inclusion of some calibrated elements of innovation: the new iron gates, the iron and canneted glass portals, the new flooring, both interior and exterior, always slightly detached from the masonry, an iron and backlit glass staircase and walkway located in the ground floor rooms, to allow a view of the spaces and works from a new point of view, a glass gallery and walkways to complete the staircase and path system.
